On Tuesday, New Jersey Network (NJN) News aired a report about this year’s New Jersey State Fair. In case you didn’t know the Garden State has a State Fair every year. Like those you would find in the Midwest, there are agricultural contests, live stock, entertainment and of course rides and other amusements. Plus there is a farmer’s market where you can get all sorts of good Jersey Fresh produce and other foods along with plants and other Garden State made products.

The fair, at The Sussex County Fairgrounds, runs through August 10th.

One fun thing about the NJN report is that one of the people they interview is from a neighboring state that some poor misguided souls think is on a par with New Jersey.

Belmar Mayor Ken Pringle (pictured, right) did have the right idea calling them as welcome as, oh, Canada Geese” in his July 4th newsletter. It also appears that our poor misguided competition has also just started back up. We feel sorry for those poor saps who think a state which has “Alabama in the middle” is the Greatest State Ever and hope they will see the light.

To our enemy across the river, it wasn’t you starting back up with the fruit of your obviously deranged mind that got us to return. No, it was this Gawker piece that did it. It proved that people really just have the same stereotypical ideas about New Jersey. It isn’t all The Turnpike, jughandles, strip malls, and Guidos.

All hail Acting Governor Dick Codey, Acting Governor of the Greatest State Ever!

Here is one of the classic early 1990s WNBC “We’re 4 New York” promo composed by Edd Kalehoff. New Jersey gets a brief mention with Jersey Shore at about 55 seconds in, but only after they mention Greenwich in Connecticut. It is still a bit better than what happened with the original 1992 version, which didn’t even mention the Garden State. But the original is truly a classic and you get to see Chuck, Sue, Len, Al Roker, Carol Jenkins, and the late great Ralph Penza, which sort of makes up for the short shrift of New Jersey. This is what happens when almost all of the state’s TV coverage comes from next door! Although we should mention that WNBC does have the best New Jersey coverage of any of the New York stations including the “Yeah we’re a New Jersey station” WWOR.
